Ripple acquires Metaco for $250 million

Ripple announced on 17 May 2023 that it had acquired Swiss custody and tokenization firm Metaco for $250 million in what was then one of the largest crypto infrastructure deals of the year. Metaco initially continued as an independent unit under founder Adrien Treccani; by mid-2024 Ripple redirected Metaco communications to Ripple Custody and rebranded Harmonize and related apps under the Ripple Custody UI after executive departures.

Metaco was a Lausanne-based provider of institutional digital-asset custody and tokenization technology (Harmonize) founded in 2015. It partnered with tier-one banks and financial institutions on secure custody, issuance, and settlement before Ripple acquired the company and later folded the brand into Ripple Custody.
