In this director-level position, you'll oversee all legal matters for Chainalysis, from product development and marketing to intellectual property and AI governance. You'll be responsible for identifying legal risks, creating company-wide policies, and advising business teams on compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You'll manage our intellectual property program, mentor a direct report (Product Counsel), and establish best practices across the organization as we scale.
In this role, you'll:
- Review current and prospective products for legal risk and advise relevant business teams on development practices
- Conduct legal research on laws and regulations relevant to company products and marketing practices
- Create policies and procedures for the company related to product launches, marketing, intellectual property, and general legal matters
- Manage the company's intellectual property program by identifying new protection opportunities and managing existing assets
- Provide oral and written legal advice to product, marketing, and business teams on compliance and best practices
- Advise data science teams and the broader company on best practices for data collection and use of artificial intelligence
- Present legal requirements and strategies to technical and non-legal stakeholders
- Oversee in-house legal team strategy and mentor your direct report, the Product Counsel
- Review outgoing marketing materials for material legal risks
We're looking for candidates who have:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent
- Current admission to practice law by a U.S. or foreign jurisdiction, or eligibility to register as in-house counsel
- 5+ years of experience conducting legal research on laws and regulations relevant to company products and marketing practices
- 5+ years of experience in legal writing to summarize the applicability of researched laws and regulations
- 5+ years of experience providing oral and written legal advice to internal business teams on product development and marketing practices
- 5+ years of experience strategizing in-house legal team structure and operations
- 5+ years of experience presenting legal requirements to technical and non-legal teams
- Demonstrated ability to advise on emerging legal issues, particularly in technology, data privacy, and artificial intelligence
Nice to have experience:
- Experience in the blockchain, cryptocurrency, or fintech industries
- Familiarity with intellectual property protection strategies
- Experience managing external counsel and legal budgets
- Background in regulatory compliance or government relations
