Job Overview
The Manager of Utility & Energy owns CleanSpark's utility relationships and energy pathway. This role builds and manages relationships with investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, and municipal utilities; leads large-load service applications and interconnection processes; negotiates energy service agreements; and performs tariff and rate analysis in support of both existing operations and new site development.
The Manager serves both the inbound and outbound sides of the Land & Power team, informing site selection with utility capacity and queue insight and supporting power-related diligence across the portfolio. Success in this role requires deep utility fluency, negotiation skill, and disciplined cross-functional coordination in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage relationships with investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, and municipal utilities across CleanSpark's current and target markets.
- Lead large-load service applications and interconnection processes, including studies, agreements, deposits, and milestone tracking.
- Negotiate and manage electric service agreements (ESAs) and related utility agreements in coordination with Legal.
- Perform tariff and rate analysis; model power cost scenarios and rate structures for prospective and operating sites.
- Assess utility capacity, queue positions, and transmission and distribution expansion plans to inform site selection and prioritization.
- Support power-related diligence for both inbound and outbound opportunities in partnership with the Site Selection and Onsite Generation teams.
- Monitor regulatory proceedings, rate cases, and large-load tariff developments affecting CleanSpark's portfolio.
- Represent CleanSpark in utility planning discussions and industry forums.
- Additional duties as assigned.
This role requires professionalism, technical fluency, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to build durable utility relationships across a collaborative, fast-paced organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy, Economics, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, professional experience, and industry training will also be considered.
- Six to ten or more years of experience in utility relations, energy procurement, interconnection, or power markets.
- Direct experience leading large-load applications and negotiating utility service or interconnection agreements.
- Fluency in tariff structures, rate design, and utility cost modeling.
- Established understanding of investor-owned, cooperative, and municipal utility structures and decision-making processes.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving data center, mining, or other large flexible-load customers.
- Familiarity with organized wholesale markets (ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM) and transmission planning.
- Existing relationships with utilities in CleanSpark's operating regions.
