Blockchain.com is connecting the world to the future of finance. As the most trusted and fastest-growing global crypto company, it helps millions of people worldwide safely access cryptocurrency. Since its inception in 2011, Blockchain.com has earned the trust of over 90 million wallet holders and more than 40 million verified users, facilitating over $1 trillion in crypto transactions.
At Blockchain.com, we are building the future of finance. Since 2011, we have been at the forefront of the cryptocurrency revolution, helping millions of users—from retail traders to the world’s largest institutions—access the crypto economy safely. We don’t just follow the rules; we set the standard for security, transparency, and operational excellence. As we scale our institutional presence in the EU, we are seeking a visionary Operational Risk Manager to build the resilient infrastructure required for a global financial powerhouse.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Build from Scratch: Architect and implement a comprehensive Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework for our global crypto-native and fiat-integrated operations.
- KRI Development: Design, deploy, and monitor a robust Key Risk Indicator (KRI) framework that captures both quantitative and qualitative data points across our trading, custody, technology, legal, finance, customer facing, compliance (both Reg. and AFC) and payments verticals.
- Third-party risk management: maintain DORA standards and manage outsourced and third-party risks.
- Process reviews: Conduct regular reviews of our processes and procedures to ascertain that inherent risks are mitigated and managed via adequate controls.
- Risk and Control matrix: maintain updates of the risks and controls register and policy.
- Regulatory Alignment: Adapt traditional Basel III standards (Standardised Approach for Operational Risk) to a decentralized context, ensuring capital adequacy and resilience against cyber, fraud, and technology risks.
- Risk Modeling: Lead the analysis of secondary and tertiary crypto market risks, assessing the operational impact of liquidity cascades, protocol failures, and counterparty contagion.
- Institutional Governance: Provide risk oversight for our Funds and Investment arms, ensuring institutional-grade controls for third-party fund management and proprietary trading desks.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Work across engineering, product, and legal teams to embed a "Risk-Aware" culture, performing RCSAs (Risk & Control Self-Assessments) on new product launches.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Educationally Elite: You hold a University degree (mandatory) or a Master’s Degree (preferred) in Finance, Risk Management, Quantitative Economics, or a related field.
- Experienced Practitioner: You have a minimum of 5 years in Operational Risk, with a deep understanding of crypto operations. You are a DORA guru.
- The Basel Expert: You have "on-the-ground" experience implementing Basel III frameworks within a traditional bank, hedge fund, or fintech environment, and you are eager to translate that rigor to the crypto space.
- Quantitative & Qualitative Balance: You are equally comfortable performing complex statistical root-cause analysis and writing high-level qualitative risk narratives for Board-level committees.
- International Veteran: You have successfully managed risk across multiple jurisdictions (UK, EU, US, APAC), and you understand the nuances of global regulatory expectations.
- Builder Mindset: You are not a "maintenance" manager. You are an architect who thrives on building systems, policies, and teams from the ground up in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Regulatory-Ready: You are Pqd for the position.
- An influencer in your field: You must have the ability to influence at all levels and ensure that operational risk management values and principles are embedded in the fibres of our processes and our people.
- Bonus Points: Professional certifications and experience in the investment fund/asset management space.
