Product Design Intern
We’re looking for a Product Design Intern to join our team for the Summer 2026 term (May to August). You’ll support Design Operations and Research Operations, along with smaller UI/UX tasks that help keep our products polished and user-friendly. This is a great opportunity to apply your design and research skills in a collaborative environment while learning how design practices operate at scale in a product-led company.
You’ll work on projects that touch everything from customer-facing applications to internal tooling, contributing to a design practice that values clarity, accessibility, and continuous improvement.
About The Team
The Product Design team is part of the Product Management department at Safe Software. We focus on creating intuitive, accessible, and efficient experiences for users of FME Form, FME Flow, and supporting tools. As an intern, you’ll be part of a hybrid team that values mentorship, learning, and fresh perspectives and you’ll work closely with experienced product designers, developers, and product managers.
You’ll work on-site at least two days per week in our Surrey, BC office, with flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time.

What You’ll Be DoingAs a Product Design Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to:**
- Contribute to UI and UX design for FME Flow and related tools by creating wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation to communicate design ideas.
- Help plan and run user research studies.
- Document and organize competitive audits, teardowns, and accessibility reviews.
- Support design system updates and contribute to shared design resources.
- Collaborate with designers, researchers, and product managers on cross-functional projects.
- Share your ideas and insights to help improve how we design and deliver features.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
Safe Software evaluates applicants based on their passion and skill with technology. That said, having experience with some of the following areas is an asset.
Required skills
- Technical skills:
- Currently studying Interaction Design, UX Design, HCI, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills—both visual and verbal.
- A solid understanding of user experience principles and design processes.
- Interest in research methods and collaborative problem-solving.
- Enthusiasm for improving products and making them more intuitive.
- Nice to Have:
- Experience with tools like Figma, Dovetail, or SurveyMonkey.
- Basic understanding of computer science or web technologies.
- Previous internship or related project experience in design or UX.
