Job Overview
The Project Controls Manager - Data Centers establishes and maintains the owner-side controls needed to deliver CleanSpark's AI data center portfolio with reliable cost, schedule, change, risk, and performance information. The role develops consistent controls standards across projects, verifies information received from contractors and delivery partners, and provides leadership with timely forecasts and early warning of material variance. Working within the PMO, this position partners closely with Projects, Finance, Commercial Operations, Supply Chain and Procurement, Legal, and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain project-controls standards, calendars, coding structures, reporting requirements, and governance practices across the AI data center portfolio.
- Oversee project cost controls, including approved budgets, commitments, actual costs, accrual coordination, cash-flow forecasts, contingency, trends, and estimate-at-completion reporting.
- Coordinate with Scheduling to align cost and schedule information, validate progress, and maintain consistent status dates, milestones, and forecasting assumptions.
- Participate in the commercial review of contractor and vendor pay applications, change orders, and cost-to-complete reporting in partnership with the PMO, Finance, and Commercial Operations.
- Maintain change-control and trend-management processes that document scope movement, pricing status, approvals, contingency use, and potential exposure.
- Develop and maintain project and portfolio risk and opportunity registers, facilitate risk reviews, and track mitigation actions through closure.
- Produce stage-gate, monthly, and executive reporting that explains current performance, forecast movement, key assumptions, emerging risks, and required decisions.
- Maintain data quality and controls within the project management information system, including budget, commitment, change, forecast, and reporting workflows and relevant integrations.
- Review contractor and consultant controls deliverables for completeness, consistency, and compliance with CleanSpark requirements; resolve gaps and escalate material issues.
- Support claims avoidance and dispute analysis by preserving contemporaneous cost and change records and coordinating relevant analysis with Legal and project leadership.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external project-controls resources, establish clear deliverables and review expectations, and develop scalable practices as the portfolio grows.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
This role requires professionalism, respect, strong communication, and the ability to work well with others in a team-oriented, inclusive environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, finance, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Seven or more years of progressive project-controls experience supporting large capital construction programs such as data centers, power, utilities, industrial facilities, or other mission-critical infrastructure.
- Strong experience with cost control, forecasting, change management, risk management, progress measurement, and executive project reporting.
- Experience participating in the commercial review of contractor pay applications, change orders, and cost-to-complete reporting.
- Working knowledge of construction contracts and delivery models, including design-build, guaranteed maximum price, lump-sum, or comparable commercial structures.
- Experience using a PMIS and related cost, schedule, and reporting tools, such as Oracle Primavera Cloud, Unifier, Primavera P6, NetSuite, or comparable systems.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to reconcile conflicting information and present clear conclusions, assumptions, and risks to leadership.
- Ability to travel to project sites and support critical reporting or project deadlines when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Owner-side project-controls experience supporting a multi-project or multi-site capital portfolio.
- Experience with hyperscale data centers, high-performance computing facilities, or other mission-critical construction programs.
- Experience building or improving a project-controls function and coordinating blended internal and consultant teams.
- AACE certification, such as Certified Cost Professional or Planning and Scheduling Professional, Project Management Professional certification, or an equivalent credential.
