THE ROLE: Data Engineer – Data Platform Team
As a Data Engineer on TRM’s Data Platform team, you will build highly available and scalable data infrastructure that supports TRM’s products and services. Your work will directly contribute to analyzing blockchain transaction activity at petabyte scale and advancing TRM’s mission to build a safer financial system for billions.
Impact You’ll Have
- Build highly reliable data services to integrate with dozens of blockchains
- Develop complex ETL pipelines that process structured and unstructured data in real-time
- Design and architect data models for optimal storage and sub-second retrieval
- Oversee deployment and monitoring of large database clusters with high availability
- Collaborate across teams with data scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to enhance TRM’s products
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of experience architecting distributed systems from ideation to production
- Exceptional programming skills in Python, and proficiency in SQL/SparkSQL
- Experience with data stores: Iceberg, Trino, BigQuery, StarRocks, Citus
- Expertise in data pipeline & workflow orchestration: Airflow, DBT, Luigi, Azkaban, Storm
- Experience with streaming & processing: Spark, Kafka, Flink
- Cloud infrastructure deployment & monitoring: Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, Datadog
- Proven ability to load, query, and transform large datasets
ABOUT THE TEAM
- Data Platform is the bridge between TRM’s data and product worlds
- Projects include petabyte-scale data stores, pipelines, and processes
- Team collaborates across the organization, with async communication and occasional huddles
- Remote-first, with team members across US timezones
- On-call support in EST/PST shifts, minimal meetings (3–4 hours/week max)

- Build scalable engines for routine tasks like cluster scaling and automation
- Compress timelines using the 80/20 principle, focusing on operational must-haves first
- Deliver first-version solutions (“skateboards”) in weeks, then iterate based on feedback
