We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Wallets, Liquidity & Bridging team within the Platform organization. This team builds and operates the wallet systems, liquidity orchestration, and bridging infrastructure that power how Coinbase moves crypto assets across 55+ blockchain protocols for millions of users. You'll own the architecture and technical direction of these systems, driving the next generation of wallet infrastructure that constructs, signs, broadcasts, and reconciles on-chain transactions with the speed, reliability, and security our customers expect.

What you'll do:

  • Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for Coinbase's wallet, liquidity, and bridging systems, defining how these platforms evolve to support new chains, assets, and product use cases at scale.
  • Build and evolve the distributed backend systems (Go) that orchestrate liquidity movements, cross-chain bridging, and transaction lifecycle management across custodial and non-custodial flows.
  • Drive service-oriented architecture improvements by decomposing legacy systems into modular, reusable platform services that reduce complexity and accelerate integration for downstream product teams.
  • Partner with Trading, Custody, Staking, and cross-platform engineering teams to define integration contracts, resolve cross-team dependencies, and align wallet infrastructure with company-wide architectural standards.
  • Lead reliability and operational excellence for wallet services, owning observability, incident response, and systemic improvements that prevent recurring failures across Tier-0 systems.
  • Shape engineering standards and technical culture across the team and broader Blockchain Platform organization through design reviews, architectural RFCs, and mentoring engineers on best practices.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in Go and designing large-scale, service-oriented distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated track record of architecting and operating production backend services that handle high-throughput transaction volumes with strict correctness and reliability requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with blockchain technologies, including transaction construction, signing, broadcasting, key management, or cross-chain bridging across protocols like Ethereum, Bitcoin, or Solana.
  • Proven history of decomposing monolithic systems into scalable microservices or platform primitives that multiple teams depend on.
  • Track record of influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority, including driving architectural decisions, leading cross-team initiatives, and representing your area in org-level forums.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
