Safe Software is looking for a Controller to join our growing Finance team. We have an immediate opening and are excited to find the right candidate to join our team.
As a Controller, you will be the financial backbone of Safe Software’s accounting operations - taking full ownership of financial reporting, compliance, and accounting process design across a growing global organization. You’ll report directly to the CFO and lead a team of AR/AP coordinators, with accountability for building and scaling a high-functioning, AI-enabled function.
This is more than a technical accounting role. We’re looking for an impact player - someone who brings deep IFRS and Canadian GAAP expertise and pairs it with genuine enthusiasm for automation, AI enablement, and change management. You’ll own NetSuite, drive process transformation, partner with RevOps and SalesOps on revenue recognition, and serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the CFO.
If you’re the kind of accountant who doesn’t just close the books - but asks how we can close them faster, smarter, and with better controls - you’ll thrive here.
About The Team
The Finance team at Safe Software is a lean, high-impact group operating at the intersection of financial discipline and business strategy. We partner closely with Sales, Human Resources, and Information Services to drive informed decision-making and maintain strong financial stewardship across a global organization.
As Controller, you’ll play a senior leadership role within this team - setting the standard for how we operate, mentor, and scale. We value integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement, and we’re genuinely excited about building a more automated, data-informed finance function. If you want to own something meaningful, shape how a team evolves, and work directly with Finance leadership on decisions that matter - this is the right team for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Controller, you will be responsible for:

- Own the full financial close cycle (monthly, quarterly, annual) - delivering accurate financial statements, variance analysis, and executive-ready dashboards
- Prepare and deliver audited financial statements, managing the audit cycle from planning through completion
- Partner with RevOps and SalesOps on revenue recognition and deferred revenue in alignment with IFRS standards
- Manage GL and sub-ledger integrity, including intercompany reconciliations, key balance sheet accounts, and payroll journal entries across Canadian, US, and international entities
Technical Accounting & Policy Governance
- Serve as the internal authority on complex accounting matters under IFRS and Canadian GAAP
- Establish and evolve accounting policies, chart of accounts, and revenue recognition standards
- Maintain awareness of the Canadian and international tax landscape, including multi-jurisdiction compliance
Compliance, Audit & Risk Management
- Lead annual financial statement audits and manage external auditor relationships
- Design and continuously improve internal control frameworks to support Canadian and international regulatory requirements
- Oversee multi-jurisdictional tax compliance: GST/HST, PST, WCB, corporate tax instalments, US state taxes, VAT, and payroll obligations
- Support treasury activities, including payment approvals and foreign currency coordination
AI Enablement & Process Automation
- Identify and lead automation opportunities across routine accounting processes - reconciliations, journal entries, payroll uploads, and reporting workflows
- Own NetSuite as the primary system of record - including data structure, chart of accounts, and all input/output processes
- Champion AI adoption and document standardized workflows to create a scalable, transferable accounting operating model
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Directly manage and develop a team of AR/AP coordinators, with accountability for mentorship, performance, and team growth
- Serve as a strategic cross-functional partner to Sales, HR, and Information Services - and provide accounting oversight on order processing and revenue operations
