As a Senior Product Designer and Researcher, FME on the Product Design team, you will contribute across the full design lifecycle, from discovery, problem framing, iterative design and both generative as well as evaluative research. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to understand user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities to explore multiple solution paths, validate ideas through research and feedback, and refine designs to a high level of quality, usability, and accessibility. This is an individual contributor role with a high level of autonomy and accountability, and you will contribute to shared design standards while helping raise the overall quality of the product.

About The Team
The Product Design and Research team is part of Product Development at Safe Software. Designers work as embedded partners within product teams and collaborate closely with Product Management and Development to deliver cohesive, human-centred experiences.
The team operates in a hybrid work model and values clear communication, shared ownership, and continuous improvement. Designers are encouraged to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and contribute to evolving the design practice.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Product Designer and Researcher, FME you will:
- Collaborate with product managers and developers to define problems, explore solutions, communicate design rationale, and make informed trade-offs.
- Own end-to-end design work for features or workflows within the FME products producing a range of design artifacts including:
- User flows, journey maps, and diagrams to model workflows and edge cases
- Low- to mid-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore ideas, refine designs and align with stakeholders
- High-fidelity designs and specifications for development handoff
- Apply sound judgment to balance speed, quality, and depth, knowing when to iterate quickly and when deeper exploration is needed.
- Execute and drive user research activities:
- Identify opportunities where research is needed
- Recommend the appropriate research methodology to support research goals
- Scope, plan, and conduct research studies
- Deliver impactful and actionable insights that drive product decisions, inform design iterations, and uncover product opportunities
- Provide research mentorship to the team and cross-discipline partners
- Contribute to shared design systems, patterns, and standards.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

What We’re Looking For:
- Experience designing digital products as part of a cross-functional product team.
- Demonstrated ability to own design problems from discovery through delivery.
- Strong foundation in human-centred and inclusive design practices.
- Experience designing and conducting research for complex workflows, systems, or data-rich interfaces.
- Ability to communicate design decisions and research insights clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
- Comfort working with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
- Typically 3 to 6 years of product or UX design experience, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience leveraging a variety of research methods (usability testing, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires), including mixed methods (qual/quant).
Nice to Have:
- Experience contributing to or working within a shared design system.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design methods.
- Experience collaborating on technically complex or enterprise-focused products.
- Working with quantitative data to complement qualitative findings.
