THE ROLE: Senior Data Engineer – Data Platform
As a Senior Data Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will execute mission-critical systems and data services that analyze blockchain transaction activity at petabyte scale, enabling TRM’s products to build a safer financial system.
Impact You’ll Have
- Build highly reliable data services to integrate with dozens of blockchains
- Develop complex ETL pipelines to transform and process petabytes of structured and unstructured data in real-time
- Design and architect intricate data models for optimal storage and retrieval with sub-second query latency
- Oversee deployment and monitoring of large database clusters with a focus on performance and high availability
- Collaborate with data scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to implement novel data models
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in distributed system architecture, from ideation to production deployment
- Exceptional Python skills and strong SQL/SparkSQL expertise
- Versatility across data engineering areas:
- Data stores: ClickHouse, ElasticSearch, Postgres, Redis, Neo4j
- Orchestration: Airflow, DBT, Luigi, Azkaban, Storm
- Data processing: Spark, Kafka, Flink
- Cloud deployment & monitoring: Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, Datadog
- Proven ability to load, query, and transform extensive datasets
ABOUT THE TEAM
- Acts as the funnel between TRM’s data and product worlds
- Handles petabytes of data across stores, pipelines, and processes
- Collaborates across teams, using async communication but willing to huddle for speed
- Values both scrappiness and process-oriented execution to meet OKRs
- Remote-first, async-friendly environment with team members across US time zones
- North star: No IC spends more than 3–4 hours/week in meetings
TRM SPEED IN THIS POSITION
- Build scalable engines to optimize routine tasks like cluster scaling and self-serve automation
- Reduce dependency on a single person by improving operational workflows
- Apply the 80/20 principle to prioritize must-haves over nice-to-haves
- Ship minimum viable versions ("skateboards") in weeks, iterate based on feedback
